Stunning January conditions

This blog post comes to you from a sunny Annecy. As I near the end of a week in and around the mountains I can’t help but reflect on the superb conditions I’ve enjoyed (sorry if this sounds a bit smug but they have been brilliant!).

As a general rule I don’t expect to get much skiing in in January but have enjoyed 4 days on this trip. Following on from a massive dump of snow on 6th/7th Jan (which fell on already well covered pistes) the sun came out and it’s been as near perfect up in the mountains as I can remember. I had to go out and play …

I’ve skied in Les Menuires, Les Gets and La Clusaz/Grand Bornand and all three areas were lovely; snowy, sunny and quiet. The best snow was in the top bowls of Orelle (3 Valleys) but the lower resorts were only just behind. On every piste I visited the conditions were smooth and grippy; the temperatures have stayed low and preserved the snow incredibly well.

With more snow on the way this weekend this is shaping up to be a fantastic winter – I’m looking forward to being back in the 3 Valleys in the first week in Feb. If conditions are half as good as they have been this week we'll have a fantastic family ski holiday.
