The season for late deals?

Doing a quick trawl of the internet it's quickly clear that there are a large number of ski offers kicking about at the moment.

A combination of many diverse factors has lead to these late season ski deals, but in my view the three most important ones are:
  1. Minimal snowfall in Jan & Feb
  2. A twitchy UK economy
  3. A (very) late Easter
When combined these factors have resulted in slow January and February sales for most ski companies (I am sure there are exceptions but suspect they are few and far between). The upshot is a significant number of bed spaces remaining, particulalry from 19th March onwards.

Although the first two factors may seem the most significant, the impact of a late Easter shouldn't be underestimated, particularly when combined with lower than normal snowfalls. Families planning to travel at Easter are as likely to head for the Med or Cornwall as the mountains this year.

However ... some of the ski deals floating about are just too good to ignore. Although snowfalls haven't been great this winter it has been cold and resorts have worked very hard to keep the slopes in good condition. There is also plenty of time left for some spectacular dumps of snow.

What are my travel plans? I'm off to Les Gets this weekend and if I spend as much time sitting on terraces soaking up rays as on the slopes that's fine by me ...
