You might imagine that we all pitch up in resort a few days before clients, turn the heating on in the chalets and get some bottles of red up to room temperature, but preparations are a little more involved than that. The process begins early in the spring as we start lining everything up to provide cracking family ski holidays from December onwards.
One of the key tasks is recruitment, as we need to have 50 talented, motivated and experienced staff in place from day one of the season. This year we received almost a thousand applications and we have to filter out the best people who can show a real dedication to helping families enjoy their time in the mountains.
Back in August our menus for the season were finalised and our chalet chefs have been experimenting on family and friends for the past few weeks. I also had the onerous task of selecting new wines for our chalets and two of the other Directors have been updating a number of our chalets and playrooms.
As we hit November supplies start mounting up in the corner of the office and by now it looks like Del Boy’s lock-up. We have everything from children’s toys to porridge oats. This Saturday I’ll be wedging all of this kit into the newly logoed up Land Rover (making sure I don’t forget the 12,000 teabags without which the season would be a disaster) and sending our two Resort Assistants off on a rather slow and noisy road trip from Hampshire to Les Gets. Lucky guys …Our training course then begins in earnest as we make sure everyone is not just knowledgeable about their new roles but has also had an opportunity to work out where they live and bond with the rest of the team. This winter it looks like there'll be plenty of snow on the ground to keep the energy and excitement levels up – although setting up 11 chalets when it’s bucketing it down with snow adds an additional challenge!
If you can fit in some cheeky pre-Christmas skiing come and meet the team from 12th December.
